The Beauty Inside: Be who you are, Love who you are.

Again, another post with a super long title. The last post where I did a review on the South Korean television series, “Oh my Venus” , I talked about the importance of not judging people based on their looks and how appearances can be deceptive. You could say this post is actually an extension of the same theme. There are so many books, movies and music about loving and accepting ourselves and to not judge based on outward appearances. Amongst the long list of movies in that list, there is this movie, called ‘The Beauty Inside ‘

If I haven’t mentioned the names of the actors in this movie, then that is because of how the storyline of this movie is.

The story follows Woo Jin. Everyday he wakes up in a different body. Sometimes he is a man. Sometimes a woman. Sometimes an elderly person, sometimes a child. He has no control over what appearance he will take on next. He works as a furniture designer selling furniture online with the help of his friend who knows about his condition.

One day he happens to meet Yi Soo and is immediately drawn to her. Initially he is scared to approach her and waits for a day when he looks young and handsome. Although he tries his best not to sleep so he won’t change, he eventually does change into an elderly man and cannot see her again .

However, she eventually discovers and accepts his condition. And the two start their relationship. But as time passes, we see things don’t seem to be going as expected. Each time he changes, he must find a way for her to accept him and recognise him,which sadly does not seem that easy.

The movie is unique with a concept that is very deep and thoughtful. The beauty inside all of us. This is and very light hearted film with some really nice cinematography which I personally liked. The fact that 123 actors played the male role was very interesting. Despite playing opposite to so many male leads, Han Hyo Joo managed to deliver a consistent performance with the actors. I also liked the profession that the protagonist followed and his emotions towards the same. We think along his lines and come to a point where we accept how hard it is for him.

The film is not complex in any way. And more so than the concept that it shows, the filmmakers have emphasised the relationship between the male and female leads more. It was nice to see how they adjusted every day just because they love each other for who they are. After all, in the end most of the things that we do is oit of love and for love right?

Like I said in my last post, despite knowing how much we should value a person for his character than looks, the reverse actually happens. It can’t be helped that much actually. Things have just gotten that way.

If you think about it, external appearances are not as unique as character. They say there are 6 people that look like us on Earth. But when we think about character, each person’s is unique. The way we react to things, the things we love and do, everything.

Being so different, brings about a lot of conflicts as well. If a person were not to do things that feels right to another, then to that other person he or she is wrong. I mean think about it. How many times have we argued for differences in opinion? Some people stick on hard to their decisions. But if everyone surrounding them feel it’s wrong, they are alienated. Even if they are right in the end. This goes upto a point where people act and decide things just to please others. This on turn could lead to unhappiness , dissastification, etc.

I guess I have gone a little off topic but then again, it is true isn’t it?

In short, the message that I have with this post is, respect others for who they are. Whether they are right or wrong. Respect their character and their individuality. It is when we do that, will we be respected for the same. You don’t just get that respect and love , you earn it.

And like those old sayings go, don’t judge a book by its cover. You never know. There are so many instances where that has been proved. J K Rowling had been to countless number of publishers most of whom rejected her work for so many reasons. But eventually, she proved them wrong didn’t she?
