Hello and welcome to my rather “better late than never” 5 year journal update!
Let me catch you up on speed with what a five year journal is – it’s basically a book with 365 questions , for which you answer one question a day for a period of five years. There is of course a bonus question to be answered on a leap day!
I found this project interesting and decided to try it out. You can buy ready made diaries or books with the questions but I decided to make my own by writing in the questions in a good quality notebook that I went and got myself.
The first phase of this project is in 2020 and if all goes well by 2024 December I should be concluding it! I intend to post about it every month until it’s end to take a look at the questions and my responses and how much things have changed over the period of five years.
So now that it’s 2021 January it means the second year of the five year journal is coming!
Until now each month, I have shared a post on what are the questions I intend to answer for each month and what questions I find most intriguing. If you want ideas on that, or you want to know what questions I answered for January just click here!
There were a few questions about my number one goal, whether I am content or not ,what I wish for the poeple I love the most. Now one thing to be noted that year #1 was written before Corona and all its associated problems and the major thing I’ve noticed in the answers changing is how much more simpler they have become due to how simply we take things now especially being at home.
Some answers that expect impactful or thoughtful answers such as – Can people change? – surprisingly stands with almost similar answers to that of last year’s. While some things I expected the answer to not change surprisingly changed – like my current favorite snack – especially since I’m a person who rarely strays away from her favorites!
Some things like my favourite accessories made me laugh and feel sad too – I answered lipstick last year and only realised that even if I wear lipstick this year, it’s not gonna be seen with the mask on! Although I did see some transparent masks nowadays for over the mouth region.
Other than that not a lot of questions and their two answers have surprised me TOO much, considering its only the second year right, of journalling.
To some people this post may seem like I am talking to myself, and maybe yes it is. But each year for five years when I write a post summarising January, I’m sure my thoughts and reactions to the exact same questions will differ, and that too I am excited to see!
Do you have a five year or long term journal? Or do you do other long term projects as a hobby? Let me know in the comments!
